Nutritious Yogurt and Fresh Fruit Parfait

Sometimes we just feel like something that’s sweet and healthy. This parfait can be eaten as a dessert or for breakfast. With only three ingredients, chopped fresh fruit, whole grain cereal and low-fat yoghurt, it’s easy to prepare!

Be creative and choose whatever fresh fruit you crave – maybe strawberries, blueberries, apples, bananas. Chop them carefully, keeping the skin whenever possible.

Fresh fruit is high in vitamins, minerals and other natural substances that protect us against chronic diseases.  Try to eat different colors and types of fruit to provide your body with a greater variety of nutrients, such as fiber, potassium, vitamin A and C.

Add two to three tablespoons of a whole grain cereal, oats, wheat, rice, barley, rye. It’s important to read the ingredients of the container and make sure that the first ingredient says “whole grain”.  The current recommendation mentions that half of our grains should come from whole grain sources.

Finally, add to three tablespoons of skimmed or low fat yogurt. You can choose different flavors: natural, strawberry, vanilla or any other combination! Low fat yogurt is a rich source of protein, calcium and vitamin D. It’s also low in calories. Probiotics, such as Lactobacillus bulgaricus  and Streptococcus thermophilus (or other bacterias) are the friendly bacteria that are beneficial to our digestive health.

Repeat these three layers, open your mouth wide and munch away. Enjoy!
